I have never being fan of the latin rock genre, but rarely I do. That rare moment occurred this year when I saw, for the first time, the performance of the Panamanian rock band, Llevarte a Marte, in the Atenea’s theater in Ciudad del Saber. But before I heard Llevarte a Marte, I was into MD which is another Panamanian rock band. Both bands were born in the same year, both rock bands, but not similar rock or rhythm. In other words, after a while of hearing both bands, I finished liking both, and selecting them as my favorite bands, on behalf of the Spanish rock genre. Hence, with matter of time, I started to pay more attention to the tone of both bands; and, of course, as I put my time on this issue I noted towards which band I had a better attraction, Llevarte a Marte. Equally important, as both bands might have similar genres, Llevarte a Marte and Md should not be considered completely equal because they differ on their own tunes or beats.

MD started their band in 2007, but they made it official when they won first place in the tournament Hard Rock Star in 2009, according to the Web site of Panama Rock. They are a Panamanian rock band that is only focus on a simple latin rock and hard rock. In the contrary, Llevarte a Marte build their band in 2008, after they won the tournament Hard Rock Star in first place. In addition, Llevarte a Marte is based on more complex or varied type rock. Their rock is based on fusion of rock with roots, reggae, latin, salsa and funk; therefore, it is a more complex sound, as stated on the Web site WA Promotions.

Moreover, let’s see why Llevarte a Marte and MD can have a similar genre, but can differ a lot on their style and sound. First, MD portrays songs that are related with a love from the past that has changed for bad, this on behalf of their first album. There songs are related to sadness, pride and freedom. In addition, their rhythm goes with a strong beat; anyways, this style is what they have kept since their first album “Todo Empieza Aqui”. However, Llevarte a Marte has sound that mixes different subgenres with rock, is a fusion. Therefore, there album not only focus on a past love, but in loneliness, peace and romance. For instance, on their song “Al final del dia” with a funk rhythm fusion with rock, they created a beat to express how he awaits for his loved one at end of the day. In my opinion, both bands fulfill my expectations, but not as much as Llevarte a Marte does. They have a vast variety of sounds that aims on different themes, it is not never general. Also, their beat is calmly in comparison to MS’s beat, because MD is more hardcore; therefore, their meanings change.

Finally, at end both are rock bands that play for the same passion. In addition, as we compared Llevarte a Marte and MD, I realized how the rhythms and the beats that Llevarte a Marte have more expressions and emotions than MD does. MD is only focus on a hardcore style of rock which I like but not as much I prefer Llevarte a Marte style. Although, that does not change the fact that both bands have created an original sounds with their unique talent a musicians; and I could not be more prouder knowing that this great bands are completely Panamanian rock bands.
